Demonte Colony 3 Release Date Advanced Gets Franchises First A Certificate

After building a loyal following over the last decade, the Demonte Colony franchise is preparing to return with what promises to be its darkest chapter yet. Director Ajay Gnanamuthu has announced that Demonte Colony 3 has completed its censor formalities with an ‘A’ certificate, making it the first film in the series to receive an adults-only rating from the Central Board of Film Certification.

The earlier two films, released in 2015 and 2024, were both awarded U/A certificates. The latest development hints at a more intense and disturbing experience, with the makers leaning further into the horror genre than ever before.

Alongside the certification update, the team also revealed that the film’s release has been preponed by a day. Instead of arriving on September 11 as initially announced, Demonte Colony 3 will now hit theatres on September 10.

Ajay Gnanamuthu promises the darkest chapter yet

Sharing the announcement on social media through a short promotional video, Ajay Gnanamuthu wrote, “The darkness is back. Demonte Colony 3 officially censored A. Not for the faint hearted. Brace Yourself. The darkness returns on September 10.”

The announcement has further fuelled anticipation surrounding the horror thriller, which carries the tagline The End is Too Far. While the first Demonte Colony became a sleeper hit and eventually grew into a successful franchise, the second film expanded its mythology and left audiences with several unanswered questions. The third instalment is expected to take that narrative forward while raising the stakes considerably.

Arulnithi returns to headline the franchise once again, reprising his role alongside Priya Bhavani Shankar. The film also features Muthukumar and Meenakshi Govindarajan in key supporting roles.

One of the more intriguing additions this time is Guru Somasundaram, who recently revealed that he plays a dreaded librarian described as the harbinger of death. The ensemble cast also includes Antti Jaaskelainen, GM Kumar, Sree Kumar, Kathir, Ashiq Hussain, Sarjano Khalid and Archana Ravichandran in pivotal roles.

Familiar creative team returns behind the camera

Much of the creative team behind the franchise is also returning for the third outing. Sam CS, whose background score has been widely credited for amplifying the eerie atmosphere of the earlier films, is back as composer. Sivakumar Vijayan serves as cinematographer, while Kumaresh D handles editing.

The screenplay has been written by Venkatesh D and Arun Haiku Sakthi, with dialogues by veteran writer Pattukkottai Prabakar.

Production duties are shared by Sudhan Sundaram under the Passion Studios banner, Manish Singhal under Dangal Media and Durgaram Choudhary under RDX TV. RC Rajkumar, Akshat Singhal and Mohit Singhal are attached as co-producers.

With its first-ever ‘A’ certificate, an earlier release date and promises of a far more unsettling cinematic experience, Demonte Colony 3 appears to be positioning itself as the boldest entry in the franchise so far. Whether the darker approach pays off will be known when the film arrives in theatres on September 10.
