Veteran actor Anupam Kher has expressed solidarity with students protesting over the alleged NEET paper leak, while also urging them to ensure that their movement remains focused on its original purpose. Sharing a video message on social media on Wednesday (July 22), Kher acknowledged the frustration and uncertainty many students are facing, saying he understands their emotions because he once stood in their place.

The actor began by reflecting on his own student days, recalling how young people are driven by aspirations, questions and the desire to build a meaningful future. Stressing that students should never be forced into such circumstances to make themselves heard, he said their voices deserve attention and respect.
“Any student should not go through such situations to express himself. I was also a student once. I also had dreams, asked questions, and expressed my dissatisfaction. Even today, there are hundreds of students in my institution. That’s why I can understand your anxiety, your anger, and your hopes. In my opinion, the student movement is the truest voice of the society.”
Kher went on to describe student movements as a reflection of society’s conscience, adding that young people usually fight not for personal gain, but for fairness, opportunity and a better tomorrow. According to him, students represent hope and should always be encouraged to speak up when they believe something is wrong.
Students are any nation’s greatest hope. Their voices must be heard, understood, and respected.

“Your struggle should remain yours”
While extending his wholehearted support, Kher also issued a word of caution. He advised protesters to remain vigilant against individuals or groups who may attempt to steer the movement towards political objectives unrelated to the students’ concerns.
“They have no selfishness. They only worry about their future. They talk about their rights. They also dream of making the country better. That’s why I am with you from the bottom of my heart. But I want to say one more thing to you. When outsiders enter your movement, political opportunists, people who show their presence in every movement, or such elements whose purpose is not your issue, but your agenda, then be careful. In the beginning, you will feel that the more people join, the more powerful you will become. But this is not always the case.”
The actor urged students to preserve the authenticity of their campaign, reminding them that their demands should never be overshadowed by external interests.
“Your struggle should remain yours. Let it become the stage for someone else’s agenda. It is your right to ask questions in democracy. It is your right to protest. It is your right to speak your mind. But it is equally important that no one else takes over your voice.”
Kher concluded his message by calling students one of the nation’s greatest strengths, saying their integrity, idealism, and determination are invaluable. Encouraging them to stay guided by their own judgement and principles, he reiterated that he stands with them while hoping they continue to raise their concerns with dignity and self-respect.
“Remember, students are the biggest asset of any country. Your energy, your honesty, your ideals are your true strength. Don’t let them become your weapon.”
He added, “I am with you. Today and tomorrow. I want you to speak your mind, But, on your own terms, with your own wisdom, with your own self-respect. May God keep you healthy, safe, and always stand with truth.”
Kher’s statement comes at a time when the alleged NEET paper leak continues to spark outrage across the country, with students demanding accountability, transparency and stronger safeguards to protect the integrity of one of India’s most important entrance examinations.
