Bhumi Pednekar has officially joined the cast of The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, where she will essay the role of the legendary warrior queen Belawadi Mallamma. The historical epic, headlined by Rishab Shetty in the titular role, continues to expand its star-studded ensemble with the latest casting announcement.
Directed by Sandeep Singh, the ambitious two-part film has already generated significant buzz with the inclusion of Rishab Shetty, Arjun Rampal and Vivek Oberoi. Bhumi’s addition further strengthens the ensemble, with the actress taking on one of Karnataka’s most celebrated historical figures.

Speaking about joining the project, Bhumi Pednekar said she feels deeply honoured to be part of a film that celebrates the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
She shared that portraying Belawadi Mallamma is both a privilege and a responsibility, adding that she immediately agreed to the film after hearing director Sandeep Singh narrate the story. “When Sandeep Singh narrated the story, I instantly okayed it. The film is unlike anything I have done before, and I am grateful to the filmmakers for giving me the opportunity to be part of a film of this scale.”
Bhumi also expressed her admiration for Rishab Shetty and his work in the Kantara franchise, saying she looks forward to sharing screen space with him.

A story of courage and the rise of the Maratha Empire
Belawadi Mallamma was a fearless 17th-century warrior queen from Belawadi in present-day Karnataka. She is remembered for her courage and leadership during a period of political upheaval in the Deccan region.
Set in the 17th century, The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj chronicles the rise of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as he established the Maratha Empire through visionary leadership and strategic military campaigns.
Written by Rishi Virmani, the two-part historical drama is expected to go on floors later this year. National Award-winning composer Amit Trivedi will score the music, while acclaimed lyricist Prasoon Joshi has been roped in to pen the songs.
