Nirmal Purja passed away after disappearing following an avalanche while on a climb on Broad Peak, Pakistan. According to reports, the avalanche hit somewhere between Camp 2 and Camp 3, leading to 10 deaths, including the well-known mountaineer. Amid that, an old interview by Purja has surfaced online, where he spoke about serving in the British army and later leaving his financially promising position to pursue mountaineering.

Amid Nirmal Purja’s passing, a 2024 interview has resurfaced that recounts the mountaineer’s decision to leave his stable job for an uncertain and risky path. According to reports, Nirmal appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience and spoke at length about his decision to quit the British military. He was quoted as saying:
“So, Joe, you asked me two questions. Let me break it down. So, in 2019, at this point, I served with the UK Special Forces for 10 years. I’ve been around the world. I have obviously done some crazy sh*t, you know, that you know, people wouldn’t have probably seen in the movies and all that.”
