As Craig took the stands as a senior candidate, his emotional acceptance speech had a deeply personal revelation: he has been diagnosed with vascular dementia.

Craig made the announcement during a pre-recorded speech played at the Hall of Fame ceremony on August 8, 2026. Towards the end of his speech, he opened up on his heartbreaking diagnosis, saying that doctors believe the condition may be at least partially related to the multiple concussions he suffered during his 11-year NFL career.
