Ayushmann Khurrana, UNICEF India’s National Ambassador, has highlighted the safety and education challenges faced by children in rural Maharashtra. During a visit to a village in Jalna district, he received letters from local girls detailing how poor road conditions are making it difficult to attend school and contributing to dropouts, particularly among female students.
Speaking to media, Ayushmann Khurrana revealed that during his visit to a village in Jalna district as part of a UNICEF-supported programme, a young girl handed him a letter highlighting the poor condition of the roads leading to her school. He explained that unsafe roads often make it difficult for children, particularly girls, to continue their education and can eventually lead to school dropouts. The actor added that the letters were personally submitted to the District Collector, and he hopes the concerns will be addressed soon.
“When young children become aware and express their views through education, it makes us feel that our country is moving forward,” said Ayushmann.
He further emphasised the need for greater awareness and action towards the future generation, saying, “The message to society is that we must be more conscious of our efforts regarding future generations. Seventy per cent of India lives in villages, and if our villages do not flourish, how can our country progress? And if children are suffering in the primary sector or in villages, then I think our country is suffering too. That is why this is a drastic step.”
Ayushmann said that while he had participated in several UNICEF campaigns across Delhi, Mumbai and the Women’s World Cup, this was his first rural field visit. Calling it an eye-opening experience, he said the visit offered him a firsthand look at grassroots work.
The actor added that Maharashtra holds a special place in his heart, making his visit to Jalna even more meaningful.
On the work front, Ayushmann Khurrana will next headline Sooraj Barjatya’s upcoming film, titled Yeh Prem Mol Liya.
