Tum Rahe Na Tum, Produced by Vinni Chawla and Sonu Katyal under Fanatically Filmi Pvt. Ltd., the film adapts Swedish playwright August Strindberg’s acclaimed play The Father. Set against an intimate Indian family backdrop, the story delves into love, control, insecurity, parental expectations, toxic masculinity and ego, examining how these emotions and conflicts can profoundly alter relationships.
Director Prem Prakash Modi said “Tum Rahe Na Tum is an intimate exploration of relationships and the emotional spaces people inhabit within a family. I wanted to look at what happens when love, expectations, insecurity, ego and ideas of masculinity begin to affect the way people see each other. The film is rooted in a very Indian family setting, but the emotions are universal.”
Speaking about the cast, Modi praised Jimmy Shergill for his ability to bring authenticity to complex characters, making him a perfect fit for the role. He also highlighted Divya Dutta’s ability to portray strength, vulnerability and emotional complexity. Modi added that the pairing of Jimmy and Divya brings the layered and deeply lived-in relationship the story demands, while allowing both actors to explore unexplored emotional and character territories.
Divya Dutta said, “What attracted me to the film was that nobody in this family is completely innocent or completely guilty. It is a very human, uncomfortable and layered story, and that complexity is what made the film particularly compelling for me.”
Jimmy Shergill, who was recently seen in the hit show Operation Safed Sagar, said he was drawn to Tum Rahe Na Tum because of its deeply human and emotionally complex narrative. Describing his role as emotionally challenging, he added that the story makes one question perceptions, beliefs and how differently two people can experience the same relationship.
The film also stars Harsh Chhaya, with Zarina Wahab and Rajesh Jais playing pivotal roles.
