Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker are set to reunite once again, this time for a sports drama titled Lalkaara. The film marks their first major collaboration since the landmark Lagaan, and while Aamir’s earlier outing with Gowariker saw him play the spirited Bhuvan, his new role is said to be strikingly different.
Filmfare has exclusively learnt that Khan, known for going to extraordinary lengths to transform himself for his characters, has embarked on a massive weight-loss programme for Lalkaara. The physical transformation is reportedly crucial to the role, with the actor set to play a character significantly younger than his real age.
A source close to the development told us, “Aamir Khan is on a massive weight-loss programme for Ashutosh Gowariker’s next film. Touted as a sports drama, Lalkaara will see the actor playing a 25-year-old. Aamir is known to go all out when it comes to physically transforming for a role, and this time too, he is putting in a great deal of work to look convincing.”
Penned by Piyush Gupta and Neeraj Singh, Lalkaara explores themes of rivalry, friendship, patriotism and the human impact of Partition through the life of one of Indian cricket’s pioneering figures.
