Suriya’s Karuppu has reached a significant milestone at the box office. The film has completed 100 days in theatres today, Sunday, marking an extraordinary theatrical run that has seen it cross the Rs 300 crore mark worldwide. The achievement makes Karuppu the highest-grossing film of Suriya’s career and caps what has been a remarkable turnaround for the actor at the box office.
The milestone was commemorated by the film’s production house, Dream Warrior Pictures, as well as director RJ Balaji, who also plays a pivotal role in the film. Taking to social media, the production banner thanked audiences for their sustained support throughout the film’s theatrical journey.
“From the first show to the 100th day, your love has been the heartbeat of Karuppu. Thank you to all our audiences and Anbaana Fans for standing with us through this incredible journey.”
The reference to “Anbaana Fans” carries particular significance for Suriya’s followers. The phrase is associated with the actor’s fan base and also features prominently in Karuppu, making the production house’s message an acknowledgement of both the film and the community that helped drive its success.
RJ Balaji, meanwhile, described the film’s run as a “fairytale journey” and credited its appeal to audiences cutting across social and cultural boundaries.
“100 days of a fairytale journey..! Different beliefs, different cultures, different generations, yet Karuppu lives on etched deep in the hearts of people across the globe.!!! A generational blockbuster..!!! Thank you God..!”
Balaji added, “Thank you People.! Couldn’t have asked for a better reception & recognition.! Godwilling… The journey will continue… Karuppa, come along too.”
Suriya also expressed his gratitude to audiences for embracing the film and making its success possible. The actor thanked viewers “for owning and celebrating” Karuppu, while emphasising that its achievement ultimately belonged to them.
Suriya’s box office resurgence continues
The 100-day milestone arrives at an interesting point in Suriya’s career. While Karuppu has established itself as his biggest theatrical grosser, his latest release Vishwanath and Sons has also been enjoying a strong run at the box office.
On its 10th day, the film reportedly collected Rs 1.19 crore net in India, according to Sacnilk. The film had already crossed Rs 110 crore worldwide within its first three days, making it the fastest Suriya starrer to reach the milestone. Its worldwide gross has since crossed Rs 160 crore, according to the latest available figures from Sacnilk.
The continued performance of Vishwanath and Sons gives Suriya a rare back-to-back box office success story, with Karuppu’s blockbuster run helping create considerable momentum around his subsequent release. The film’s success has also reinforced the commercial value of Suriya’s recent choices at a time when the actor has been looking to expand his range while maintaining his theatrical appeal.
Suriya’s upcoming slate promises further variety. He is set to collaborate with Aavesham director Jithu Madhavan on a project featuring Nazriya Nazim and Naslen. He is also reuniting with Jai Bhim filmmaker TJ Gnanavel for another highly anticipated film.
For now, however, Karuppu’s 100-day celebration remains the headline achievement. Crossing Rs 300 crore worldwide and becoming the biggest grosser of Suriya’s career, the film has turned what might once have seemed like an ambitious box office target into a landmark moment for the actor and his audience.
