The blockbuster success of Pawan Kalyan’s last year’s release, They Call Him OG, left fans wanting more. The makers announced the second instalment of the action thriller, OG 2, earlier this year. Just when work on the sequel was in full swing, Pawan fell ill and subsequently underwent surgery. While it was the actor-politician who had initiated the idea of turning OG into a franchise and was reportedly excited about the sequel, there were also reports that he had shifted his focus towards his political responsibilities. On Wednesday, on the occasion of his birthday, OG director Sujeeth posted a special video that has reignited fan excitement around the sequel.

Expanding the OG universe
The makers of OG dropped a special video celebrating Pawan Kalyan’s birthday. The nearly one-and-a-half-minute clip, posted by director Sujeeth, offers a glimpse into how excited the actor is about the sequel and shows him urging the team to give their best. Music composer Thaman S is also part of the conversation about OG 2.
When Thaman describes the film as having “an Indian origin… Southeast emotions… Western presentation,” Pawan acknowledges the unique way in which the narrative is being presented. The actor also expresses his belief that the story has immense potential. The video ends with the words “Samurai Reimei”, which translates to “rise of the samurai”. The shoot is expected to begin soon.
Trading stardom for public service
Pawan Kalyan’s transition from cinema to politics has been widely followed and respected. At the peak of his film career, Pawan was one of India’s highest-paid actors, with a massive fan following. However, he stepped away from the comforts of stardom, faced political setbacks and continued to pursue a larger public role.
