More than two weeks after its theatrical release, Modha Rathri continues to find appreciation from within the Tamil film industry. The Rishikanth and Anishma Anilkumar-led film has received encouraging responses from critics and audiences, with several prominent names speaking positively about the debut venture. The latest celebrity to champion the film is Dhanush, who met the cast and crew before sharing a special note about the film on social media.
Taking to X on Wednesday, Dhanush praised the film for its emotional appeal and acknowledged the efforts of the newcomers involved in bringing it to the screen. He wrote, “#ModhaRathri is such a heartwarming film. Have to applaud this wonderful effort by a bunch of first-timers. Please don’t miss it in theatres with your families!”
The actor’s endorsement comes at a time when Modha Rathri is attempting to find a larger audience in theatres. His post also drew a response from director Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, who is set to collaborate with Dhanush on one of his upcoming projects. Quote-tweeting Dhanush’s post, the filmmaker wrote, “Thank you, sir. Appreciation like this will inspire and encourage many more debut talents .Keep inspiring.”

A film finding support from the industry
Dhanush is not the first major name from the Tamil film industry to express his appreciation for Modha Rathri. Silambarasan TR has also backed the film, while Tamizharasan Pachamuthu previously shared his positive response to the project. The growing word of mouth has brought attention to a film largely powered by newcomers both in front of and behind the camera.
For Mythri Movie Makers, which is producing the film, Dhanush’s endorsement was naturally a moment to celebrate. The production house responded to his post by describing it as “A moment that has the #ModhaRathri team on cloud nine.”
Modha Rathri marks the directorial debut of Raja Karuppasamy, who has also written the film. The project is produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar under Mythri Movie Makers. The production banner’s entry into Tamil cinema has already included Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly and the Pradeep Ranganathan and Mamitha Baiju starrer Dude, making Modha Rathri its third Tamil production.
A relationship drama with a darker side
At the centre of Modha Rathri is a newly married couple whose wedding is not entirely of their choosing. The film unfolds around their first night together, but rather than presenting marriage through a conventional romantic lens, it uses the situation to expose uncomfortable truths about the couple and their families.
As the night progresses, revelations force the newlyweds to reassess the circumstances that brought them together. What initially appears to be a story about an arranged or forced marriage gradually becomes an exploration of relationships, family expectations and the difficult realities that can remain hidden beneath social conventions.
Alongside Rishikanth and Anishma Anilkumar, the film features Chetan, Bagavathi Perumal, Abdool Lee and A Venkatesh in supporting roles. The ensemble contributes to a story that places its characters and their interpersonal conflicts at the centre of the narrative.
While the film has earned encouraging words from audiences, critics and industry figures, its theatrical performance has so far not matched the level of appreciation it has received. According to Sacnilk, Modha Rathri had collected Rs 7.41 crore from theatres in India after its first ten days.
With Dhanush now joining the growing list of industry voices recommending the film, Modha Rathri continues to rely on word of mouth to reach viewers. For a project driven by first-time talents, the support from established names could prove significant as the film continues its theatrical run.
