“DCP Raman Kumar upholds the law. And never breaks his own rules,” read the Instagram caption of Prithviraj’s poster from Junglee Pictures. “DCP Ajooni knows the law. And she stands by it. Get a closer look at DCP Ajooni Kohli and the making of #Daayra,” read another caption of Kareena’s picture.
Kareena earlier played investigative or law enforcement roles in films like, The Buckingham Murders (2023) and Angrezi Medium (2020). But in Daayra, her character Ajooni is built around subtle intensity, sharp psychological depth, and quiet authority. As part of her preparation, she worked extensively on mastering a stoic, controlled persona. “I had to suppress my usual expressive acting style to suit the character. It was a great and challenging experience working on the film,” said Kareena.
Daayra is about the gray areas of the law and systemic apathy. The film explores a brutal case involving the disappearance and murder of a young girl.
Daayra is releasing in theaters worldwide on September 18, 2026.
