Abir Gulaal, featuring Pakistani star Fawad Khan and Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor, is a long-awaited film. The romantic comedy now has an official teaser and release date. The makers have given us the closest look yet into the upcoming film which is directed by Aarti S. Bagdi.
The teaser of Abir Gulaal opens with a slate that reads “When was the last time you fell in love…” before introducing Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor’s characters sitting in a car. Fawad sings Kuchh Na Kaho from 1942 A Love Story as it rains outside. As he gazes into Vaani’s eyes, she asks him if he’s flirting with her. To this, he responds, “Do you want me to?”

Abir Gulaal release date
The teaser came with a release date, which is set for May 9, 2025. This marks Fawad Khan’s return to Indian cinema after almost 9 years. The film was initially expected to arrive in 2022, but it reportedly faced production delays since then. There has been an unofficial ban on Pakistani stars working in Indian projects since 2016. However, the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition for an official ban in a ruling in 2023.
Filmfare had exclusively revealed the film’s title last year. We also shared casting details about Fawad and Vaani coming together for the first time. More recently, we shared a production update when the cast and crew wrapped a 40-day filming for Abir Gulaal in London back in December last year. Our source shared, “The makers plan to market the film internationally and show it at various festivals for starters.”

The official synopsis of Abir Gulaal reads, “This heartwarming tale unfolds in the picturesque streets of London, weaving a love story filled with unexpected turns, tender moments, and pure magic. Audiences can expect a delightful blend of laughter, tender moments, and the undeniable chemistry between Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor.”
Abir Gulaal also features Lisa Haydon, Riddhi Dogra, Farida Jalal, Soni Razdan, Parmeet Sethi, Rahul Vora, Amrit Sandhu, Sujoy De and Dev Agrawal in key roles.
