Pan-Indian films with mythological roots continue to rise. At a time when Indian epics are being blended with high-budget spectacle, yet another film is set to be launched on similar lines. According to reports, Akshay Kumar and Rana Daggubati are set to team up for a pan-Indian multi-starrer. Bringing this crossover collaboration together is producer Karan Johar.

Film to have Ujjain backdrop
Director Chandoo Mondeti, who impressed audiences with Karthikeya 2, which had a strong mythological connect, is looking to recreate the magic. According to sources close to the development, Akshay and Rana’s film will have a Ujjain backdrop. The film explores the ancient and cultural landscape of the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Akshay, who has often expressed interest in South Indian films and their themes, quickly greenlit the project after listening to the concept. Since he has already worked with Rana Daggubati in the 2015 film Baby, coming on board was easier. Karan Johar will bankroll the historical thriller on a grand scale. The film is currently completing its pre-production formalities, and if all goes well, an official announcement is expected soon.

Rana going easy…
On the other hand, Rana has been selective when it comes to signing films lately. After Virata Parvam and Spy in 2022, audiences have seen the actor frequently in cameo appearances in films like Parasakthi and Mirai. His Tamil production venture Kaantha last year did not perform well at the box office. Rana also appeared as Inspector Devaraj, aka Phoenix, in a period crime thriller. The actor is now looking for box office redemption and believes Chandoo Mondeti’s script will resonate with audiences. According to sources, another top star could be part of the film. Negotiations are currently underway, and the makers have kept the details under wraps.
