The yet-to-be-titled Malayalam film headlined by Arjun Ashokan has officially wrapped its shoot, the makers confirmed via social media, signalling the end of a multi-location production that stretched across India and the UAE. Directed by debutant Nikhil Mohan, who has also penned the story, the film is positioned as a light-hearted entertainer revolving around the dynamics of friendship.
Backed by filmmaker Arun Gopy under his production banner Arun Gopy Excitements, the project marks the banner’s maiden venture into production. It is jointly produced in association with Justin and Mathew Entertainments, with Sunantha Philip Justin and Saumya John Arun attached as executive producers. With its youthful premise and ensemble-driven narrative, the film aims to tap into the easy charm and relatability that has worked well for recent Malayalam buddy comedies.
At its core, the film follows the lives of four friends, played by Arjun Ashokan, Balu Varghese, Althaf Salim and Sarath Sabha. All four actors are known for their effortless comic timing and grounded performances, making the casting a strong indicator of the film’s tone. The project appears to lean into humour rooted in everyday situations, friendships and the chaos that often accompanies them.
Familiar collaborators and fresh energy
Adding to the film’s appeal is the involvement of writer Sanoop Thykoodam, who has previously collaborated with Arjun Ashokan on films like Sumesh and Ramesh and Chatha Pacha: The Ring of Rowdies. Known for his knack for crafting conversational humour and quirky character interactions, Sanoop’s screenplay and dialogues are expected to bring a similar flavour to this project.
The film’s technical crew features cinematographer Saneesh Stanley, composer Electronic Kili and editor Sagar Das. While the team blends relatively fresh voices with emerging talent, the choice suggests a conscious attempt to keep the storytelling vibrant and contemporary. The shoot itself spanned a diverse set of locations, including Dubai, Puducherry, Kochi and Coimbatore, hinting at a narrative that travels beyond a single setting and possibly explores different phases or misadventures of the central characters.
Despite the wrap announcement, the makers have remained tight-lipped about the film’s title and release timeline. Given the production has now entered post-production, further updates, including first-look posters or teaser material, are expected in the coming weeks.
Arjun Ashokan’s busy slate continues
For Arjun Ashokan, this film is another addition to an increasingly diverse lineup. The actor, who continues to balance comedic roles with more intense performances, was recently seen in Bramayugam, further cementing his ability to shift between genres.
Looking ahead, Arjun is also part of director Ullas Chemban’s second film Disco, where he shares screen space with Antony Varghese Pepe and Lukman Avaran. The project is already generating curiosity given the director’s previous work and the combination of actors.
Beyond Malayalam cinema, Arjun is expanding his footprint into Tamil films as well. He is set to appear in Ravi Mohan’s Bro Code and the Prabhu Deva and AR Rahman-led project Moon Walk, signalling a steady move into a wider South Indian market.
With this newly wrapped film, Arjun seems to be returning to a space that has consistently worked in his favour: ensemble-driven, slice-of-life entertainers anchored by humour and strong character dynamics. If the team manages to capture the easy chemistry between its leads, the film could well resonate with audiences looking for a breezy, feel-good watch.
