Ayan Mukerji’s father Deb Mukherjee has passed away at the age of 83. According to Times Of India, the veteran actor breathed his last at 9.30 am today. He was unwell and hospitalised for quite some days. His funeral is scheduled to take place at 4pm today, at Pawan Hans Crematorium, Mumbai.
The veteran actor was born on November 22, 1941 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Sashadhar Mukherjee was a pioneering Indian filmmaker. Sashadhar started his career with Bombay Talkies in the 1930s. He later established Filmistan Studio with Rai Bahadur Chunilal, Ashok Kumar and Gyan Mukherjee in 1943. In the 1950s, he started his independent studio, Filmalaya, which became quite popular. Deb Mukherjee’s mother, Satidevi Mukherjee, was the sister of Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar and Kishore Kumar. Deb’s siblings were Joy Mukherjee, Shomu Mukherjee, Rono Mukherjee, Subbir Mukherjee and Shibani Maulik Mukherjee.
Deb Mukherjee has acted in popular movies like Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Abhinetri, Ek Baar Muskura Do, Aansoo Ban Gaye Phool, King Uncle, Kaminey and Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki. He died due to age-related ailments. While the cause of death is unconfirmed, it is believed to be cancer.
The late actor was married twice. He had a daughter, named Sunita, from his first marriage. Sunita is married to filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker. He later married Amrit Mukherjee and the couple gave birth to Ayan Mukerji. Ayan is known for directing movies like Wake Up Sid, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and BrahmÄÂÂ�stra: Part 1.
Dev Mukherjee was also photographed during Durga Puja celebrations. He was seen being actively involved in the events and was often clicked with Kajol, Rani Mukerji, Tanuja and other members of the Mukerji family.
