Box Office Report : Here Is How Much L2: Empuraan Raked In On Day 3

Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan, despite sparking some controversy, continues to perform strongly at the box office. The film, which stars Mohanlal, earned Rs 13.50 crore on its third day, bringing its total domestic earnings to Rs 46 crore after three days. It’s now just Rs 4 crore short of the significant Rs 50 crore milestone. While Saturday’s collection showed a minor rise from Friday’s Rs 11.5 crore, the biggest earnings came on opening day with Rs 21 crore, making it the highest-ever opening for a Malayalam film in India.

On the global stage, Empuraan has made a huge impact, quickly entering the Rs 100 crore club, a feat unmatched by any other Malayalam film so far. This achievement places it among other notable Malayalam films like Lucifer, Puli Murugan, and 2018, all of which have crossed the 100-crore mark globally. Empuraan has also set new records in international markets, including the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and the US, further highlighting its widespread popularity.

However, the film now faces stiff competition from AR Murugadoss’ Sikandar, starring Salman Khan, which released just before Eid. Given Salman’s strong following during the festival, Sikandar is expected to draw a large audience, especially in the Hindi market. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, whose popularity has been soaring with recent hits like Pushpa 2 and Chhaava.

On the other hand, Empuraan has faced some backlash due to its alleged references to the 2002 Gujarat riots and the portrayal of central investigative agencies. In response, co-producer Gokulam Gopalan has asked director Prithviraj to make 17 voluntary cuts to address the concerns. Some controversial dialogues have already been muted, and the revised version of the film is expected to hit screens next week. The decision to make these changes shows the film’s commitment to addressing public sentiment while retaining its core message.
