The relationship between actors, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, lovingly called ‘Branjelina’, has fallen apart in ways fans could never have imagined. Hollywood’s former ‘IT couple’ are currently embroiled in an asset-related suit. The actors are fighting over Château Miraval, a French winery they jointly purchased in 2008. Recently, the controversy intensified after their eldest son, Maddox Chivan Jolie, legally filed to drop Pitt surname. On June 9, 2026, reports surfaced that Maddox’s sister, Zahara Jolie, 21, also followed the same path. However, a past instance suggests that she might have tried to drop Pitt from her name about three years before.
Did Zahara Jolie try to drop the Pitt surname in 2023?
Zahara Jolie legally filed to drop her father’s last name, Pitt, on June 4, 2026. She requested an official name change from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Jolie. A court hearing to rule on this motion is scheduled for September 28, 2026. While her legal filing is recent, reports suggest that she began to dissociate herself from the surname about three years ago. As details of her legal filing for the surname change emerged, a past video from her college resurfaced. It was her November 2023 induction into the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College. The then-18-year-old Zahara introduced herself to the crowd, saying:
“My name is Zahara Marley Jolie. Coming all the way from the Golden State, in the city that is full of angels, Los Angeles, California… I am this line’s number seven.”
