Vicky Kaushal’s historical drama Chhaava, which brings the life of Maratha Emperor Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj to the big screen, has proven to be a massive box office success. Now in its fourth week, the film has amassed an impressive Rs 525.7 crore in India, helped in part by its Telugu release on March 7. The worldwide earnings have now overtaken Gadar 2, Sunny Deol’s 2023 blockbuster, making Chhaava one of the highest-grossing films in recent times. Despite being in its later weeks, the film continues to pull audiences, maintaining a strong hold at the box office.
According to Sacnilk, Chhaava saw a small dip in collections on Sunday due to the Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand, as many opted to watch the match instead. Still, the film brought in Rs 11.5 crore that day, with Rs 9 crore from the Hindi version and Rs 2.5 crore from its Telugu release. The film’s fourth-weekend collection stood at Rs 28.43 crore, making it the second-highest fourth-weekend earner after Pushpa 2, which raked in Rs 30 crore. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh highlighted this achievement, emphasizing how Chhaava held its ground despite competition from the cricket final.
Looking at its day-wise performance, Chhaava had a stellar start with Rs 219.25 crore in its first week, followed by Rs 180.25 crore in the second week and Rs 84.05 crore in the third. In its fourth weekend, the film earned Rs 8.75 crore on Friday, Rs 16.75 crore on Saturday, and Rs 11.5 crore on Sunday, bringing its domestic total to Rs 520.55 crore. Of this, the Hindi version contributed Rs 512.3 crore, while the Telugu version added Rs 8.25 crore. Globally, the film has grossed Rs 691 crore, surpassing Gadar 2’s lifetime earnings of Rs 686 crore.
Chhaava, which hit theatres on February 14 with an opening of Rs 31 crore, has shattered multiple records for Vicky Kaushal, making it the highest-grossing film of his career. As it heads into its next phase, the film is expected to see another boost during the Holi weekend, with only John Abraham’s The Diplomat posing any significant competition. Given its strong word-of-mouth and continued audience interest, Chhaava is set to cement its place as one of 2025’s biggest blockbusters.
