PVR Inox has announced a special screening festival dedicated to director David Dhawan’s cinematic legacy. As the filmmaker prepares for the release of his upcoming romantic comedy, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, several of his biggest hits are set to return to the big screen.
The festival aims to honour David’s decades-long contribution to Indian cinema. The curated lineup features a mix of his 90s hits and modern classics. Fans can look forward to watching the Govinda-starrers Aankhen and Raja Babu, as well as Salman Khan’s popular comedies Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and Partner. Additionally, Main Tera Hero, which marked his first collaboration with his son Varun Dhawan, will also be part of the showcase.

Niharika Bijli, lead strategist at PVR Inox Ltd, expressed her pride in hosting the event. She said, “It is an honour for us to host a festival dedicated to Mr David Dhawan’s remarkable legacy. Over decades, his films have defined mainstream Hindi entertainment, bringing joy to audiences across generations. This festival is a rare opportunity for newer audiences to rediscover some of his iconic films in the format they were originally created for.”
David Dhawan himself expressed immense joy over the initiative. Talking about his filmmaking philosophy, he said, “I have always believed in making films that entertain people and help them forget the struggles of their daily lives. My idea has always been simple: make people laugh, feel good about life, even if just for those three hours, and walk out of the theatre with a smile. To see PVR Inox curate a festival around my work and bring these films back to the big screen is heartwarming. These films were made with a lot of love, energy, and instinct. I am excited to see audiences return to cinemas to relive the madness, the music, and the joy all over again.”
In a recent conversation with ANI, David hinted that his upcoming project might be his final stint in the director’s chair. He told the agency, “I don’t think I should do more. This might be my last film…after this, I’ll just be Varun’s father. I will look after him, look after my family.” Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, starring Varun Dhawan alongside Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde, will release in theatres on June 5.
