For Dushara Vijayan, G.D.N. is more than just another film. As anticipation builds for the Madhavan-led biographical drama, the actor has revealed the personal connection she shares with its subject, industrialist and inventor GD Naidu.
A journey that came full circle
Taking to Instagram on Sunday, Dushara shared a series of photographs from the film’s trailer launch, including pictures of herself and Madhavan posing with one of GD Naidu’s first-owned motorcycles. Alongside the images, she penned a heartfelt note reflecting on how a childhood memory unexpectedly became part of her professional journey.
“Growing up in Coimbatore, I remember school trips to the GD Naidu Museum—never imagining that one day, I would be part of bringing his story to life on screen. From standing there as a child, learning about his extraordinary life… to now stepping into his world—life has truly come full circle,” she wrote.
The actor also expressed gratitude to everyone associated with the film while teasing audiences about what they can expect.
“My heartfelt gratitude to the entire cast, crew, and production team for this incredible opportunity. And to the audience—you are not ready for what you are about to witness.”
The post struck a chord with fans, many of whom appreciated the personal significance of the project for Dushara. The photographs from the event, especially those featuring the actors with one of GD Naidu’s iconic motorcycles, also attracted attention online.
Bringing the ‘Edison of India’ to the big screen
Written and directed by Krishnakumar Ramkumar, G.D.N. stars Madhavan as the legendary inventor and entrepreneur GD Naidu, who is often referred to as the “Edison of India.” A self-taught engineer from Coimbatore, Naidu played a pioneering role in India’s industrial growth through a series of practical and affordable innovations.
Among his many achievements, GD Naidu developed India’s first indigenous electric motor and created a wide range of products, including electric fans, petrol engines, razors and ticketing machines. His contributions to engineering and manufacturing continue to be celebrated, making the film one of the most anticipated biographical dramas of the year.
Joining Madhavan in the ensemble are Dushara Vijayan, Sathyaraj, Jayaram, Priyamani, Vinay Rai, Aditi Balan and Yogi Babu. Produced by Vijay Moolan and Varghese Moolan under Varghese Moolan Pictures, the film is also backed by Madhavan and Sarita through Tricolour Films. Govind Vasantha has composed the music, while Aravind Kamalanathan serves as cinematographer.
Following the trailer launch, G.D.N. has continued to generate buzz for its attempt to chronicle the life of one of India’s greatest innovators. Dushara’s emotional recollection has only added another layer of anticipation ahead of the film’s theatrical release. G.D.N. is slated to release in theatres on July 17 in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.
