Adarsh Gourav plays an aspiring DIY filmmaker in the charming Superboys of Malegaon. Directed by Reema Kagti, the film, which also features Vineet Kumar Singh, Shashank Arora and more, is currently in theatres. In an exclusive interview with Filmfare, Adarsh opened up about having self-doubt as an actor.
In a scene from Superboys of Malegaon, Adarsh’s Nasir is told that he’s crazy for thinking he can make it in movies. When asked if he ever felt that way in real life, Gourav shared, “I feel that every day – Am I crazy to be doing this? Sometimes there’s no work for 4 to 5 months. I used to think sahi kehte the shayad sab. Main hi bewakoof hoon. And suddenly kaam aa jata tha and koi naukri mil jaati thi. Par unn paanch mahino mein itna self-doubt mein main chala jaata tha ki maine financial management ki padhai kari hai. Main abhi bhi jaa sakta hu, zyada der nahi hui hai…”
Sharing a heartwarming anecdote about how his family supported him, Gourav added, “You believe in yourself, but it’s so important to have an ecosystem of people who also have conviction. Every time I’ve gone into this tunnel of self-doubt, I’ve always had my mother and brother. My grandfather, who doesn’t know anything about cinema, in my lowest phase he wrote a poem that read, ‘Zindagi ke lagu pravah mein leher na ho, saiyam ho, bal ho.’ Aur unko samajh nahi aata hai picturon ke baare mein. But he had that conviction that my grandchild will do something with his life. Unknowingly, he gave me the confidence to go on for another 6 months that proved to be beneficial for me.”
