Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar is often accused of nepotism and not being on the side of newcomers and people who do not come from the industry. However, actor Abhay Verma’s interaction with the director-producer might change people’s view of him. Verma, who was put under the spotlight with the 2024 film Munjya, joined Filmfare for its show In The Ring With Filmfare. In a conversation with our Editor-In-Chief Jitesh Pillaai, the young actor spoke about his struggles in the industry and also the fame and love he received from audiences after Munjya.
When asked about the person who sent him the most heartwarming message after the success of his film, he shared, “It would be the one who forged the industry – from being an assistant director to directing his films – the recent one being Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. I am talking about Karan Johar. He sent me the fondest message.”
On being asked to share the message with the audience, he did not reveal the content of the message but said, “The message was so sweet that it made me feel like I know him for ten years. As if I were a major part of his life. That’s how welcoming and comforting he was. And whenever you come from outside the industry, you just want that comfort sometimes, that people are welcoming towards you and personalities like him appreciate the talent. That is just more than anything.”
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Munjya also starred Sharvari, Mona Singh and Sathyaraj among others besides Abhay. He revealed during the conversation that Munjya was able to achieve all the appreciation and success because he was detached from the results. “I never felt that it was a one in a lifetime project or it is going to be a flop or who is coming to see it in the theatres. I always had the purest intentions while shooting for the film.”
Besides Munjya, the actor has also starred in films such as Safed, Ae Watan Mere Watan and Manoj Bajpayee’s web series The Family Man. It is being reported that he will next be seen in Shah Rukh Khan’s King, directed by Siddharth Anand.
