Actor Prateik Babbar has officially changed his name to Prateik Smita Patil to pay tribute to his later mother, actress Smita Patil. The Sikandar actor, who has been raised by his maternal relatives, has a tumultuous relationship with his father Raj Babbar and his side of the family. They were also missing from his wedding with Priya Banerjee earlier this year which led to more speculations about their rift. Now, the actor has officially dropped his father’s surname and identifies himself as Prateik Smita Patil.
When Filmfare asked him about his name change and whether it was his own way to keep her legacy alive, the actor said, “Yes absolutely. Prateik Smita Patil is a powerful name and Smita Patil has a powerful legacy. I am merely just embracing her power. I am the son of the late great legend Smita Patil.”

Last month, Priya opened up about Raj Babbar and his family’s absence from their wedding and said that everyone who mattered was present with them. “There was absolutely no family member who was missing from the wedding or our celebrations. I don’t know why there are rumours that “family members” were absent. Our families were there including my parents, his aunts who raised him, his nana-nani and everyone who mattered and is family was with us. And there was absolutely nobody who’s family was missing,” the actress said.
For the uninitiated, Aarya Babbar and Juhi Babbar are Raj Babbar’s kids from his first marriage with Nadira Babbar. Prateik is his son with the late actress Smita Patil. She died giving birth to him. Prateik and Priya got married at Rock Cliff, which was the house bought by Smita Patil so she could live with her son, however, destiny had other plans. Prateik also shared that both he and Priya had a dream about his mother, where she told Priya that they should get married at Rock Cliff.
