As Athiya Shetty and KL Rahul’s daughter Evaraah Vipula Rahul celebrates her first birthday, we revisit a heartfelt conversation where grandfather Suniel Shetty spoke about the values he hopes to pass on to his granddaughter.

Born on March 24, 2025, little Evaraah has already become the centre of her family’s world. In a previous chat with Filmfare, Suniel Shetty shared his thoughts on upbringing, culture and the importance of staying connected to one’s roots. Speaking about the kind of environment he envisions for her, the actor said, “First of all, it has everything to do with the culture. I would rather send her to a Gurukul than a school. That’s what Tia (Athiya Shetty) and me are constantly discussing. Let her be a part of nature. Let her appreciate the little things. And then automatically, she’ll learn to appreciate the whole thing.”
He further opened up about his own spiritual journey and the practices that keep him grounded. “I’m still connected to my roots. Every year, I go to my Kuldevi and pray. I pray to my Kuldevtas. I do my Naga Pooja. I do my pooja of the spirits and our ancestors. So I stay connected,” he shared.
The actor also reflected on how upbringing plays a key role in shaping cultural awareness. “A lot of kids don’t want to go back. I’m trying to do things that’ll keep her engaged there. I want to take her back to her roots. And I think that is the is the only connection. They’ll pick up everything else. When you have parents and grandparents who are conscious, half the job is done. Athiya and Ahan (Shetty) are conscious because they lived with their grandparents. That’s what upbringing is all about,” he added.
With strong family values and a deep sense of tradition, it’s clear that Evaraah is growing up surrounded by stories, rituals and a legacy that celebrates staying rooted while embracing the future.
