The biggest night of the music industry, the 2026 Grammys or the 68th Annual Grammy Awards is finally here. It is being held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Amongst surprise victories, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s Defying Gravity topped the list. The duo won an award in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards for their performance of the Wicked duet Defying Gravity. For those unaware, the duet closes the 2024 musical about the witches of Oz on a soaring and triumphant note.
Interestingly, the recent win for Erivo and Grande comes as Defying Gravity wins despite the category having strong competition. The other songs and performers in the category include KATSEYE’s Gabriela, Golden from KPop Demon Hunters, SZA’s 30 for 30 with Kendrick Lamar and hit single Apt. by ROSEÌ� and Bruno Mars.
Despite tallying 19 nominations, this just marks Grande’s third Grammy win. She last took home the honour in the same category in 2021 for her dance-pop hit Rain on Me with Lady Gaga and won best pop vocal album in 2019 for Sweetener. On the other hand, this win represents Erivo’s second Grammy, following her 2017 victory for best musical theatre album for The Color Purple. She is now three-quarters of the way to achieving EGOT status, with an Emmy, Grammy and Tony to her credit. Erivo has also earned three Oscar nominations, for Wicked and Harriet, though the Academy Award has so far eluded her.
