Imran Khan Reveals Aamir Khan Received Death Threats During Satyamev Jayate

Aamir Khan not only transformed Hindi cinema with his socially conscious films, but he also made a big impact across the nation with his television program, Satyamev Jayate. This talk show, broadcast between 2012 and 2014, addressed some of India’s most challenging issues, including female feticide, child sexual abuse, casteism, dowry, rape, and LGBTQ+ rights. The show’s influence was immediate and far-reaching, initiating discussions in homes throughout the country. However, this huge impact was not without its challenges.

Imran Khan, Aamir’s nephew, recently shared that the show received criticism from individuals who perceived its message as a threat. During his conversation on Unfiltered by Samdish, Imran mentioned that the disapproval extended beyond online outrage.

He said, “I have known Aamir my whole life. I have a base level of faith and trust that the choices he makes and the things he chooses to attach his time and energy to are made in good faith and with honesty.” He added, “His episode on female infanticide angered a lot of folks who issued death threats.”

Imran explained that such reactions were not isolated incidents, but rather parts of a broader pattern of intimidation. He said that many individuals have been attempting to intimidate Aamir Khan into leaving India for several years. He shared, “Mamu jaan bechare ko desh se bhagane ki koshish kar rahe hain kab se.”

Reflecting on the fear such threats are intended to instill, Imran added, “That is also part of the learning. It is part of an important message that we are all meant to learn: ‘Keep your head down. Zyada bolne ka nahi. Na teri ghar aa jayenge, aur ghar ko jalayenge.’ (Don’t talk too much. Otherwise, we’ll come to your house and burn it down)”

According to him, these experiences show how dissent is frequently discouraged through fear rather than discussion. Imran Khan, who has largely stayed away from acting for nearly a decade, is now preparing for a comeback with Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos, directed by Vir Das.
