The Cannes Film Festival 2026 is shaping up to feature a strong and diverse Indian presence, with a mix of established Bollywood names and regional cinema voices expected to take centre stage. As the festival returns to the French Riviera later this month, early reports suggest that Indian representation this year will go beyond its usual star power.
Among the most anticipated appearances is Alia Bhatt, who is set to return to Cannes after making a notable debut last year. Joining her is festival regular Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who has been a consistent presence at Cannes for over two decades and is expected to walk the red carpet once again.
The Bollywood contingent is also expected to include filmmaker Karan Johar along with actors like Mouni Roy and Pooja Batra. Meanwhile, actor Tara Sutaria is likely to make her Cannes red carpet debut this year, adding fresh energy to the lineup.
What sets 2026 apart is the strong presence of regional cinema. Punjabi cinema is expected to mark a milestone with Ammy Virk and Roopi Gill bringing their film Chandrikala to Cannes, signalling a broader representation of Indian storytelling. Marathi cinema will also be represented by veteran actors Ashok Saraf and Nivedita Saraf, alongside Prajakta Mali and producer Kedar Joshi, who are expected to showcase traditional attire on the red carpet.
Gujarati cinema will be represented by actor-producer Manasi Parekh, attending with her husband Parthiv Gohil, while Malayalam filmmaker Chidambaram is expected to present his upcoming project Balan: The Boy at the Cannes market.
With such a wide-ranging lineup, Cannes 2026 is set to highlight not just Bollywood glamour but the depth and diversity of Indian cinema across languages and regions. The festival, scheduled to run from May 12 to 23, continues to serve as a global platform where filmmakers and actors from around the world converge and this year, India’s presence appears more expansive than ever.
