Actor Karthi has officially begun work on the 30th film of his career. The actor has joined hands with filmmaker Kalyan Shankar, best known for directing the Telugu hits Mad and Mad Square.
Backed by Sithara Entertainments, the yet-to-be-titled project stars Meenakshi Chaudhary as the female lead. The production house shared photographs from the film’s pooja ceremony on Monday, which coincided with Karthi’s birthday, and confirmed that shooting is already underway in full swing.
The makers also revealed that the title and first look of the film will be unveiled soon. Further details regarding the supporting cast, technical crew, storyline, and release plans are expected to be announced at a later stage.
The project marks the first collaboration between Karthi and Meenakshi Chaudhary. The actor was recently seen in Anaganaga Oka Raju, while Tamil audiences last saw her opposite Vijay in The Greatest of All Time, popularly referred to as GOAT.
Karthi was last seen in director Nalan Kumarasamy’s Vaa Vaathiyaar, which released earlier this year.
Kalyan Shankar’s rise and Karthi’s busy slate
Director Kalyan Shankar made his feature directorial debut with Mad, a campus comedy that became a surprise hit among younger audiences. He followed it up with Mad Square, which further strengthened his reputation for youthful entertainers with quirky humour and ensemble-driven storytelling.
Before making feature films, Kalyan directed the web series Nenu Mee Kalyan in 2017. He has also worked as a writer on projects such as Tillu Square, Hero, and the anthology series Navarasa.
Meanwhile, Karthi is also working on Marshal, directed by Tamizh of Taanakkaran fame. Set in the 1960s, the period drama stars Kalyani Priyadarshan alongside Karthi and features an ensemble cast including Sathyaraj, Prabhu, Lal, John Kokken and Eswari Rao.
With a young director coming off back-to-back successes and a fresh pairing leading the cast, Karthi’s 30th film has already generated considerable curiosity among fans.
