Veteran Bollywood actress Madhu Malhotra, known for her appearances in several popular Hindi films during the 1970s and 1980s, has passed away in Mumbai. She was 71. The actress reportedly died on March 13, though the exact cause of her death has not been publicly disclosed.
Madhu Malhotra was a familiar face in Hindi cinema and built a steady career through supporting roles and memorable song appearances. While she may not always have been cast in leading roles, her presence in many well-known films helped her gain recognition among audiences of that era.
Over the years, she worked in numerous projects across different genres, becoming part of the industry’s vibrant character-actor landscape.
Among her most memorable appearances was in the song “Lambi Judaai” from the 1983 film Hero, directed by Subhash Ghai.
The song, sung by legendary folk singer Reshma, went on to become one of the most enduring tracks from the film. Malhotra’s striking gypsy look in the song sequence remains a nostalgic memory for many fans of classic Bollywood music.
She was also seen in the 1982 film Satte Pe Satta, which starred Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini in lead roles. In the film, Malhotra appeared as the girlfriend of the character Budh, played by actor Paintal, and was remembered for her appearance in the song “Mausam Mastana.”
Reports suggest that during her career, Malhotra appeared in more than 100 films, mostly in supporting roles and cameo appearances in song sequences. Despite staying largely away from the spotlight in later years, she remained a recognised face from the golden era of Hindi cinema.
