Over the last few days, social media was abuzz with the news that Malayalam actor was diagnosed with cancer, and that he was taking a break from films for treatment. On March 17, Monday, the actor’s team, in a statement to a news publication, dismissed these rumours with, clarifying that Mammootty had taken a break for Ramadan, and would resume his projects soon.
In a statement to Mid-Day, the 73-year-old star’s team stated, “It is fake news. He is on vacation because he is fasting for Ramzan. He is on a break from his shoot schedule as well because of that. In fact, after the break he will go back to shooting for Mahesh Narayanan’s film with Mohanlal.”
The Rumours Are Completely Baseless
The rumour has its roots in a Reddit post that claimed that Mammootty was in the early stages of colon cancer but reassured readers that it was treatable. This rumour immediately spread across social media with online channels quickly engaging in speculative discussions regarding this. The actor’s team, in their statement, further emphasised that the rumours were completely baseless and urged fans to not believe such false information.

Mammootty is currently shooting for Mahesh Narayanan’s highly anticipated film where he would be sharing the screen with Mohanlal. Tentatively titled MMMN, the film also features Nayanthara in a key role along with Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Shaheen Siddique, Sanal Aman, Danish Husain, Revathi, Zarin Shihab, Darshana Rajendran, Renji Panicker and Rajiv Menon.
Mammootty Is Gearing Up For Bazooka
Meanwhile, Mammootty, who was last seen in the crime comedy Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse, directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, the actor played the role of a private detective. He is awaiting the release of director Deeno Dennis’ action thriller Bazooka, which is slated to hot theatres on April 10.
