With exactly three months to go, the makers of Daayra have confirmed that the gripping thriller, directed by Meghna Gulzar, will release in theatres on September 18. Produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios, Daayra marks a special milestone as the first-ever co-production between the two banners. It also continues a successful creative partnership between Meghna Gulzar and Junglee Pictures, serving as their third collaboration after the acclaimed films Raazi and Talvar. According to the production teams, they were united by a story they unanimously believe needed to be told now more than ever.
Inspired by true events, the film is written by Yash Keswani, Sima Agarwal, and Meghna Gulzar. It promises a deep, intense exploration of crime, justice, and punishment, themes that the director is well-known for handling with emotional depth and nuance.
The film has generated immense buzz for its casting coup, bringing together Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran on screen for the very first time, a pairing that the makers note is one that only Meghna Gulzar could have envisioned.
Kareena, who boasts a remarkable career spanning over 25 years, continues to anchor the film with her reputation for constant reinvention and fearless choices. She is joined by Prithviraj Sukumaran, one of Malayalam cinema’s most versatile performers, known for delivering acclaimed hits across various genres, including Jana Gana Mana and The Goat Life.
