Mohanlal’s much-anticipated film L2E – Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, has already made waves even before its release. As the sequel to Lucifer, the film has raised the bar in Malayalam cinema, breaking records previously held by Manjummel Boys. The excitement surrounding the movie is evident in its massive advance bookings, setting the stage for what could be one of the biggest openings in the industry. Fans have been eagerly waiting for this sequel, and the early numbers reflect their enthusiasm.
As per the latest reports, L2E – Empuraan has raked in a staggering Rs 4.07 crore in total India gross from advance bookings, including blocked seats, with over 2.60 lakh tickets already sold. Even without accounting for blocked seats, the advance gross stands at Rs 3.87 crore—almost equaling Manjummel Boys’ opening day earnings of Rs 3.9 crore purely from advance sales. This means L2E – Empuraan has already achieved in pre-sales what Manjummel Boys did on its entire first day, highlighting the film’s enormous hype.
That said, the biggest opening day for a Malayalam film still belongs to Leo: Bloody Sweet, starring Thalapathy Vijay, which collected Rs 12 crore on its first day. Among Malayalam films, the record for the highest opening day stands with Prithviraj’s The Goat Life, which grossed Rs 8.75 crore. Whether L2E – Empuraan can surpass these milestones remains to be seen, but expectations are running high for a record-breaking debut.
Manjummel Boys became a surprise blockbuster in early 2024, earning Rs 141 crore and becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. However, with Mohanlal’s massive fan base and Prithviraj’s directorial vision, L2E – Empuraan has every chance to rewrite history. Industry experts believe that if the film maintains this momentum, it could set new records not just in Kerala but across India. With advance bookings already indicating a massive start, all eyes are now on the final first-day numbers, which could redefine box office records for Malayalam cinema.
