Although he was overseeing the search for the 84-year-old, Chris will now have to save his job after his old records sparked controversy.

Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing on February 1, 2026, from her residence in Tucson, Arizona. While Chris Nanos has been investigating the high-profile case, his old records and some alleged discrepancies have come to light. Now, several senior officials, including Pima County Supervisor, Matt Heinz, have revealed that Chris has a strict 10-day deadline to either respond to the questions raised about his past conduct or leave his role. Sharing how they have complete rights to remove Chris from office if he fails to comply, Matt told the Irish Star:
“I believe that this board would be well within our legal rights to vacate that office and remove him if he doesn’t comply with the statute. Even if a response is provided, the board could still pursue a resolution of lack of confidence if they are dissatisfied with the answers.”
