Nora Fatehi has finally addressed the controversy around Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke, sharing her side through a candid video. She revealed that she shot the song nearly three years ago in Kannada for KD: The Devil, agreeing to it because it was part of a big film and gave her the chance to work with Sanjay Dutt. At the time, she relied on the filmmakers for translations and said nothing seemed inappropriate or vulgar to her then.
Clarifying the main issue, Nora said, “Whatever they’ve done right now, which is creating a Hindi version and dubbing the voice in Hindi and having those lyrics, which are very inappropriate, I had no idea about that. They didn’t take any approvals, they didn’t take any permission from me.” She shared that she only realised the seriousness of the situation when she heard the Hindi version at the launch and immediately flagged it to the director, knowing it would attract backlash.
She also spoke about being uncomfortable with other aspects of the release, including unapproved images and even an AI-generated visual featuring her and Sanjay Dutt. Nora stressed that she had no control over these decisions and had consciously chosen to distance herself from the song, which is why she did not promote it at all.
The controversy around the song escalated soon after its release, with strong criticism over its lyrics and visuals, many calling them vulgar and objectifying. The issue gained traction across social media and beyond, with complaints filed and demands for strict action. It eventually reached Parliament, where the government confirmed a ban on the song, bringing the debate around accountability in content creation into sharper focus.
