Actor Uttam Mohanty, a stalwart of the Odia film industry, passed away on Thursday. He died at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram after suffering from liver cirrhosis. He was 66 years old. As the industry and the state are in mourning, Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi remembered the veteran actor and his influence.
In a post on X, Majhi called Mohanty’s passing a “huge void” in the Odia art world. He wrote in Odia, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of Odisha’s famous and popular actor, Sikkli Mohanty. His departure has created a huge void in the Odia art world. The impression he left in the Odia art world will always keep him in the hearts of the audience. I pray for the eternal peace of his soul and express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family.”

Uttam Mohanty was cremated with full state honours
CM Majhi also announced that Mohanty’s last rites will be performed with full state honours. As per reports, Uttam Mohanty was cremated on Friday. His funeral took place in Bhubaneshwar. The actor was admitted to Medanta Hospital where he was undergoing treatment for liver cirrhosis.

Uttam Mohanty featured in over 130 movies through his career that spanned four decades. He made his acting debut in 1977 with Sadhu Meher’s directorial Abhimaan. His filmography includes popular films like Danda Balunga, Kie Kite Kie Haare, Pati Patni, Ramayana and more. He also starred in 30 Bengali films and the Hindi-language film Naya Zaher.
His work won him several prestigious awards like the Jayadev Puraskar in 1999. The late actor also won the Odisha Living Legend Award and the Odisha State Film Award over the years.
