Chaotic release calendars have been one of the most critical issues plaguing Tollywood of late. The resolve to release films in multiple languages on the same day also means that producers have to lock dates suitable across industries. This has only added to their woes.
Fauzi to release during Dasara
Prabhas-starrer Fauzi is a classic example. Originally, the filmmakers had planned to release it during the Independence Day week. However, on Thursday, they announced that they are now eyeing a Dasara festive release. Fauzi, a war drama directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, is only half complete, and the makers felt they needed more time to wrap up production. The producers have already communicated the Dasara release plan to distributors and exhibitors. Even though Prabhas will simultaneously shoot for Sandeep Vanga’s Spirit, the superstar’s priority remains completing Fauzi.
Ram Charan, Nani remain circumspect
On the other hand, the makers of Ram Charan’s Peddi and Nani’s The Paradise had earlier announced March 26 as their respective release dates. However, going by the current schedules, work on both films is unlikely to be completed by then. Moreover, Ram Charan does not want to risk his film clashing with Toxic and Dhurandhar 2. This development has prompted the makers of both films to look for alternate release dates. According to reports, the Peddi team was keen on targeting either April or Dasara. But with Fauzi already entering the festive race, the Ram Charan-starrer’s makers are now in a fix.
Nani, too, is being cautious about finalising the release date of The Paradise, as April remains the only feasible option, which could again lead to a clash with Peddi. Independence Day might be ideal for both films, but that, too, depends on other major releases around the same time. All in all, in the era of pan-India cinema, slotting a release date has become a logistical nightmare for producers. It will be interesting to see how Peddi and The Paradise eventually navigate their release strategies. Tricky times, indeed!
