Pritam Defends Blackpinkâs Jennie Against Plagiarism Claims

Music composer Pritam has spoken out in support of Blackpink’s Jennie after plagiarism accusations surfaced regarding her new song, Like Jennie. Some fans claimed the song sounded very similar to the theme music used for Alia Bhatt’s character, Rani, in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, a film Pritam had worked on. He dismissed these claims, saying that small similarities in music happen all the time and don’t necessarily mean copying. The controversy started when Jennie released a teaser of her song, and many social media users pointed out that its melody and rhythm closely matched Karan Johar’s film’s theme.

Pritam defended K-pop artists in a statement, explaining that such similarities are often unintentional. He pointed out, “Rani and Jennie are names that rhyme, so a similar flow in one phrase doesn’t make it a copy.” He added that minor similarities in rhyming, phrasing, or even within a genre are normal in music. Instead of focusing on tiny details, he encouraged fans to look at the bigger picture and appreciate the creativity behind a song.

He also mentioned that in today’s world, artists share platforms and inspirations, making it unlikely that someone would deliberately copy another’s work. “In today’s interconnected world, where artists share the same platforms, no one is deliberately trying to copy someone else’s work,” he said. Pritam emphasized that creating a song takes a lot of effort, and if an artist truly connects with an idea, they can always collaborate instead. He reminded fans that music is an evolving form of art, influenced by different elements rather than direct imitation.

In his closing statement, Pritam urged fans to celebrate artists rather than bring them down over small similarities. He explained that music is about creativity, artistic expression, and sometimes just pure coincidence, especially when artists have similar creative styles. “Rather than tearing artists down, celebrating their work makes far more sense. Wishing Jennie all the best for her new album,” he wrote. Jennie’s solo track, Like Jennie, was officially released on March 7.
