Priyadarshan entered the Indian film industry with his debut film, Poochakkoru Mookkuthi, which was released in 1984. The film featured critically acclaimed actor, Mohanlal in the lead role. The film was a surprise hit, and its screwball comedy stunned the audience and film critics. The film was remade in Tamil as Thangamani Rangamani, in Hindi as Hungama, in Telugu as Intlo Srimathi Veedhilo Kumari, in Kannada as Jootata, in Bangladesh Bengali as Bhalobeshe Bou Anbo, in Indian Bengali as Le Halua Le, and in Punjabi as Lovely Te Lovely.
Priyadarshan was just 27 years old when he made his debut as a director and instantly made his mark in Indian cinema. In the following decades, he directed a series of memorable films in different languages that still hold a special place in the audience’s hearts. Some of his most notable films include Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Chup Chup Ke, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, Hulchul, De Dana Dan, Kanchivaram, Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea, Thenmavin Kombath, Kilukkam, Oppam, and many more.
