There is a major update on Aamir Khan’s upcoming films. The actor has reportedly allotted dates for Ashutosh Gowariker’s next directorial venture, while pushing Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots sequel to mid-2027. As per a report by Variety India, Aamir had been considering both films simultaneously but ultimately decided to priorities Gowariker’s project over 3 Idiots’ sequel.
The upcoming film is reportedly based on the historic 1952 India-Pakistan Test series and will see Aamir essay the role of legendary Indian cricketer Lala Amarnath. The actor is expected to begin shooting for the film by October or November this year. Pre-production work on the sports drama has already begun, with technical recce expected to start shortly. Casting for the film is also underway.

The report further states that Farhan Akhtar, who is also backing the project as a producer, has been confirmed for a pivotal role in the film. He will reportedly play one of four close friends of Aamir’s character. Both actors, along with the rest of the cast, are expected to undergo extensive cricket training for their roles.
As per insiders, Aamir chose to move ahead with Gowariker’s film mainly because the script is further along in development compared to the 3 Idiots sequel. The sports drama has reportedly been written by Piyush Gupta and Neeraj Singh.
Meanwhile, Rajkumar Hirani is still developing the script for the 3 Idiots sequel along with writer Abhijat Joshi. Work on the screenplay is said to be ongoing, and the delay has reportedly been a mutual decision between Hirani and Aamir to ensure the sequel lives up to the immense expectations surrounding the franchise.
