The gender pay gap in Bollywood and Tollywood has always been a topic of discussion for years, and many actresses have voiced their objections on the subject. Samantha too has been vocal about several issues in the society and the film industry. She may have also spoken about the gender pay parity many times that is prevailing in the film industry. But this time Samantha wanted to address a significant and burning issue that’s been evident in the film industry – the gender pay gap issue. She wants to walk the talk and be a go-getter now. The actress recently turned producer and has launched production house Tralala Moving Pictures. She is producing and starring in her maiden production, Maa Inti Bangaram, which is presently under shooting. Additionally, there’s another film in which she is only bankrolling and not acting. It’s in this film that Samantha had reportedly addressed pay disparity in the industry.
Filmmaker Nandini Reddy attended a round table at the Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFES). Speaking on the occasion, she confirmed that Samantha ensured that there’s pay parity for men and women in her production company. “Samantha is producing our first film and she told me there is pay parity. She made it a point that male and female actors are paid the same,” said Nandini Reddy, adding that she’s proud of the actress.
At a time when there’s a growing movement towards equal pay, with many actresses advocating for fair compensation based on talent rather than gender, netizens and fans are lauding Samantha’s effort. Many fans commented and expressed happiness that the film industry is slowly acknowledging the significance of equal pay and the contributions of female actors. Fans are hoping that more producers will emulate and take the initiative forward. Meanwhile, Nandini Reddy and Samantha Ruth Prabhu are teaming up for a breezy entertainer. The film will be announced shortly.
