Sarke Chunar Song Row: Sanjay Dutt Vows to Sponsor The Education of 50 Tribal Girls

Sanjay Dutt recently appeared before the National Commission for Women amid the controversy surrounding the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke. He submitted a written apology and expressed regret for any unintended harm caused to society.
Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke is from the upcoming Kannada film, KD: The Devil, starring Dutt among others. The track was picturised on Nora Fatehi. It faced immediate backlash on social media for its explicit content shortly after its YouTube release.
During the hearing, the NCW addressed the vulgarity and the indecent representation of women in the song and also questioned its intent, awareness and accountability.

NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar underlined the responsibility of senior and influential figures in ensuring that their work remains within the bounds of legal and societal standards. She also raised concerns about whether sufficient scrutiny was exercised before engaging in material that could be seen as objectifying women.

Following this, Dutt pledged to sponsor the education of 50 tribal girls as part of a broader effort toward social welfare and women’s empowerment, the committee said in a statement.

Nora Fatehi could not appear at the hearing as she is abroad. The actress has asked for a different date now.
The Hindi version of the Kannada song was released on March 15 on YouTube. However, following outrage over the lyrics and the NCW’s intervention, the song was pulled down from the platform. Directed by Prem and starring Dhruv Sarja, the Kannada film KD: The Devil is currently slated for a theatrical release on April 30.
