Shane Nigam-starrer Dridam is all set to make its digital debut. The makers of the investigative crime thriller announced on Monday that the film will begin streaming on JioHotstar from June 12, a little over a month after its theatrical release.
Dridam heads to streaming after mixed theatrical response
Directed by debutant Martin Joseph, who has previously worked closely with filmmaker Jeethu Joseph, Dridam hit theatres on May 8 and received a mixed response from critics and audiences. Despite its modest theatrical run, the film has generated interest among viewers who enjoy police procedurals and mystery-driven thrillers, making its OTT arrival a significant second innings.
The film places Shane Nigam in the role of Vijay Radhakrishnan, a young Sub-Inspector who is posted to a rural police station. What initially appears to be a routine assignment quickly turns into a complex investigation when the seemingly peaceful locality is rocked by a string of crimes. As multiple murders and a high-profile bank robbery unsettle the region, Vijay finds himself navigating a web of secrets, suspects and unexpected twists.
Over the years, Malayalam cinema has built a strong reputation for grounded investigative dramas, with films balancing suspense and character-driven storytelling. Dridam attempts to tap into that tradition by focusing on a young officer forced to prove himself under increasingly difficult circumstances.
Shane Nigam leads an ensemble cast
The screenplay for Dridam has been jointly penned by Jomon John and Linto Devasia. Alongside Shane Nigam, the film features a supporting cast that includes Sanya, Shobi Thilakan, Krishna Praba Nair, Nandan Unni, Dinesh Prabhakar, Kottayam Ramesh and Bitto Davis.
The project is backed by producers Mukesh R Mehta and CV Sarathi under the banner E4 Experiments. It is also presented by Jeethu Joseph through his production house Bedtime Stories, a detail that drew attention even before the film’s release given the acclaimed filmmaker’s long association with the thriller genre.
Behind the scenes, the film boasts a technical team led by cinematographer PM Unnikrishnan, editor Vinayakh and composer Sreerag Saji. The makers had positioned the film as a suspense-filled investigative drama, with the narrative gradually peeling back layers of a larger mystery.
For Shane Nigam, Dridam marked another addition to a filmography that has increasingly explored darker and more intense genres. The actor, known for performances in films such as Kumbalangi Nights, Ishq and RDX: Robert Dony Xavier, continues to experiment with varied roles across commercial entertainers and character-driven dramas.
With its OTT release now around the corner, Dridam will have the opportunity to reach a wider audience beyond its theatrical footprint. Crime thrillers have often found a strong following on streaming platforms, and the makers will be hoping the film connects with viewers looking for an engaging mystery.
Dridam begins streaming on JioHotstar from June 12.
