Subhash Ghai Says Taal 2âs Script Is Almost Complete

Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai has shared a key update on Taal 2, confirming that the sequel to his 1999 classic is steadily moving forward. Speaking about the project, he said, “The script is almost complete,” indicating that the film is nearing a crucial stage before production decisions are finalised.
The original Taal, starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Akshaye Khanna and Anil Kapoor, remains one of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated musical dramas. Known for its music, scale, and emotional storytelling, the film continues to hold strong recall, making a sequel both a nostalgic and high-expectation project.

While discussing the current landscape, Ghai also spoke about the reception of Saiyaara and its lead actors Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Praising their work, he said, “They have done a very good job. The freshness worked for the film,” highlighting how new faces can often bring a sense of authenticity that resonates with audiences.
However, the filmmaker was clear that casting for Taal 2 would depend entirely on the story’s requirements. “Even if they are successful, you cannot repeat them if the story demands new faces,” he stated, suggesting that the sequel may prioritise originality over familiarity.

With the script nearing completion, the focus is expected to gradually shift toward casting and production timelines, with key decisions likely to shape the film’s overall direction and tone.

While official announcements are still awaited, the update has already sparked curiosity around how Taal 2 will reinterpret its legacy for a new generation, particularly in terms of music, storytelling scale, and the balance between nostalgia and contemporary appeal.

As the industry continues to revisit iconic titles, Taal 2 stands at an interesting intersection of nostalgia and reinvention, with expectations building around how it will balance both, particularly in retaining the musical soul and emotional depth of the original while adapting its narrative, scale, and characters to resonate with evolving audience sensibilities, contemporary storytelling formats, and the demands of a new generation of viewers.
