Renowned Tamil filmmaker Bharathiraja passed away in Chennai on Wednesday (June 10, 2026). He was 84 and is survived by his wife Chandraleela and daughter Janani. The legendary director breathed his last at his residence following age-related complications and prolonged respiratory issues that had affected his health for several months. Following the death of his son, actor Manoj Bharathiraja, in March last year, the director’s health had reportedly deteriorated further. His passing marks the end of an extraordinary era in Indian cinema.
