The 14th Dalai Lama has won his first Grammy Award. At 90 years old, the Tibetan spiritual leader was honoured at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards with the trophy for Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording for his album Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Others nominated in this category were Milli Vanilli, US Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, Trevor Noah and actress Kathy Garver.

The project is a spoken-word work that blends the Dalai Lama’s reflections on compassion, peace, mindfulness, inner well-being and harmony, with original music inspired by Hindustani classical traditions. The recordings were created in collaboration with sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, with contributions from other international artists such as Maggie Rogers and Andra Day.
A track in the album also features Dalai Lama talking about the town in Tibet where he was born. Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright accepted the Grammy on the Dalai Lama’s behalf.
Meanwhile, the night witnessed history being made. Steven Spielberg achieved EGOT status, winning Best Music Film for Music for John Williams, which he produced. Meanwhile, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo took home the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their rendition of the Wicked duet Defying Gravity. KPop Demon Hunters also made history by winning their first Grammy for the song Golden. The track won the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media category, also marking K-pop’s first-ever Grammy win.
Kendrick Lamar and Lady Gaga dominated the night, walking away with multiple awards across both major and genre-specific categories. Lady Gaga bagged the Song of the Year award for Abracadabra as well as Best Pop Vocal Album for Mayhem. She also won the Best Dance Pop Recording award for Abracadabra. On the other hand, Kendrick Lamar won the Best Rap Album award, along with Best Melodic Rap Performance.
