The Mummy Star Arnold Vosloo to Play British Antagonist in Vijay Deverakondas Ranabaali

Director Rahul Sankrityan set his sights on a Hollywood star for Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s Ranabaali. He wanted a powerful actor to portray an antagonist inspired by a real-life figure. The filmmaker ultimately chose Arnold Vosloo for the role, believing Indian audiences would instantly connect with him.

“We knew that we wanted a strong Hollywood actor for this part, which is inspired by a real character. We were keen on Arnold, as his work in The Mummy is so well known in India and adds a strong nostalgia factor for audiences as well,” he told Hindustan Times. Vosloo plays a ruthless British character named Sir Theodore Hector.

Menacing presence

A historical villain demands an actor who can command immense physical authority. Vosloo brings exactly that menacing presence to the project. If the character is written with depth and helps drive the narrative in unexpected directions, the veteran actor could emerge as one of the film’s major talking points.

Critics and audiences are familiar with Vosloo’s iconic portrayal of Imhotep in The Mummy (1999). His commanding screen presence and expressive eyes helped transform a supernatural monster into a character who was both terrifying and emotionally compelling.

He has also earned praise for several other Hollywood performances. In Blood Diamond, he played a ruthless mercenary, while in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, he portrayed the shape-shifting villain Zartan. Across projects, Vosloo has consistently brought complexity and gravitas to darker roles.

What to expect from Ranabaali

Ranabaali is a period action drama in which Vijay Deverakonda plays a messianic figure. Vijay and Rashmika have previously shared screen space in Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade. This will be their first film together since their marriage. As things stand, Ranabaali is slated for a theatrical release on September 11.
