Cristobal Tapia de Veer, the Emmy-winning music composer known for creating the iconic theme track of The White Lotus, has announced that he won’t be returning for the next season of the hit series. This update comes after a series of creative differences with the show’s creator, Mike White.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Tapia de Veer revealed that there have been issues with White since the first season of The White Lotus. “He was just saying no to anything,” Cristobal shared.

When the composer suggested including an extended version of the show’s original theme song with the beloved “ooh-loo-loo-loo” chorus, White rejected the idea. He reportedly wanted a more subdued tone for the season’s music, something that would play in a club with a chill vibe. He shared, “I texted the producer and I told him that it would be great to, at some point, give them the longer version with the ooh-loo-loo-loos, because people will explode if they realize that it was going there anyway. He thought it was a good idea. But then Mike cut that – he wasn’t happy about that.”
Tapia de Veer went on to describe his falling out with White as a “rock ’n’ roll band story.” Recently, in response to fan backlash over the absence of the extended theme, Tapia de Veer shared the uncut version on his YouTube channel. He earned three Emmy Awards for Outstanding Music Composition for his work on The White Lotus.
The Season 3 finale of The White Lotus will stream on JioHotstar on April 7.
