Tollywood’s summer season has entered its final phase. Films released over the last two months have largely underperformed at the box office, leaving fans and trade circles pinning their hopes on upcoming big-ticket releases like Peddi and Maa Inti Bangaram to end the holiday season on a high note.
Peddi
Perhaps the most anticipated Telugu film of the year, Peddi, starring Ram Charan, arrives in theatres worldwide on June 4. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana and featuring music by AR Rahman, the rustic sports-action drama comes loaded with massive expectations.
Fans are anticipating an emotional, Rangasthalam-style rural narrative with sports forming the emotional and dramatic backbone of the story. Ram Charan sports three distinct looks in the film — a sprinter, wrestler, and cricket enthusiast. His transformation into a rugged crossover athlete has generated immense curiosity among audiences.
The film also stars Janhvi Kapoor as a village belle. Set in Andhra Pradesh during the 1980s and 1990s, Peddi follows a spirited villager who uses traditional sports like wrestling and cricket to unite his community, challenge a powerful rival, and reclaim his people’s dignity.
Sing Geetham
After a gap of 13 years, legendary filmmaker Singeetam Srinivasa Rao returns to direction with Sing Geetham, slated for release on June 11. Fans are eagerly awaiting the musical fantasy drama, which marks the 94-year-old auteur’s 61st film. Known for classics like Aditya 369, Bhairava Dweepam, and Michael Madana Kama Rajan, Singeetam returns with a story centred on an ambitious young man caught between modern progress and traditional values.
Maa Inti Bangaram
There is considerable buzz surrounding Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s Maa Inti Bangaram. The film follows a seemingly docile newlywed daughter-in-law who harbours a violent past and a secret mission. The trailer has especially grabbed attention for Samantha’s high-octane action sequences performed in a saree. Many viewers have described the film as having “desi Kill Bill vibes.”
Samantha, who is also producing the film alongside her husband Raj Nidimoru, reunites with director Nandini Reddy for the third time. The action drama marks Samantha’s first theatrical release after her marriage.
Lenin
Set against the backdrop of Rayalaseema, Akhil-starrer Lenin is a rustic action-romance that explores dark themes like honour killings, political rivalries, and family conflict. The film reportedly carries mythological undertones inspired by Lord Krishna, while also centring on an intense love story. Akhil plays a villager determined to carve out his own identity and legacy amid violent circumstances. With the tagline, “No war is more violent than love,” the film also stars Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead.
