Veteran Bollywood actor Bharat Kapoor passed away on Monday at 80. With a career that spanned nearly four decades across theatre, films, and television, he was a respected figure known for his versatility and dedication to his craft.
According to reports, the actor breathed his last around 3:30 pm at Sion Hospital in Mumbai. He had reportedly been unwell for three days before his passing. His close friend and fellow actor, Avtar Gill, shared details about his final moments and health, saying, “I just came from the cremation, which took place at 6:30 pm. He passed away at around 3 pm today at Sion Hospital in Mumbai. He had not been keeping well for the past three days. Over the last few days, his multiple organs had started failing.”

His last rites were conducted later that evening at 6:30 pm, attended by his family members and close friends who gathered to pay their final respects. The news of his demise was also confirmed by filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, who took to Instagram to share a tribute to the late actor. Talking about their professional journey together, Pandit wrote, “Sad to know about the demise of veteran theatre and film actor Bharat Kapoor ji. Have great memories working with him in the initial days of my career. A great human being. Om Shanti.”
Bharat Kapoor began his journey in the Hindi film industry in 1972. Over the next 40 years, he became a familiar face to audiences, particularly for his ability to play strong supporting characters and antagonists. His filmography includes several iconic projects from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s.
He is remembered for his work in films such as Noorie, Ram Balram, Love Story, Bazaar, Ghulami, Aakhree Raasta, Satyamev Jayate, Swarg, Khuda Gawah and Rang. In the later stages of his career, he appeared in films like Barsaat, Saajan Chale Sasural, and Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities.
Beyond the big screen, Kapoor was a prominent name in the Indian television industry during its golden era. He showcased his range by appearing in popular shows such as Campus, Parampara, Rahat, Saans, Amanat, Tara, Chunauti, and Kahani Chandrakanta Ki.
Whether playing a police officer, a lawyer, or a strict authoritative figure, Bharat Kapoor’s screen presence was noted for bringing depth and realism to every story. His consistent performances and sincerity earned him huge respect among his peers and the industry.
